This course is a part of a package deal of nine courses in electricity and electronics onboard.
This course is about battery types and charging. The course covers types of batteries, sizes, consumer batteries, starter batteries, open/closed cells, AGM, GEL, and LI-ON.
Power to the bow thruster, anchor winch, and winch are reviewed along with cable pulls rules, including resistance in cables and batteries’ placement.
For example, it may be a good idea to have an extra battery under the berth.
Recommendations for charging voltage, charger size, when to charge the battery, and DC-DC converter/charger for li-on batteries.
Advice is also given on winter storage, avoiding sulphation, and when a battery needs to be replaced.
